Technique    Picking    When using a pick learn the tradition grip first. The pick should be as perpendicular to the strings as possible. Consider breaking from traditional grip not because you can't help it, but in consideration of different sounds. When the pick is not in line with the string it is plucking, a softer attack can be produced. Same with holding the pick upside down.
